how is your site wishing to define 'pop punk'? orange county-ish? punk that makes it to MTV? punk with pop influence, which could go back as far as the clash and the ramones?

2)Blink 182 - Enema of the State
3)NOFX - Punk in Drublic
4)Operation Ivy - Energy
5)Bad Religion - Stranger than Fiction
there are a ton of bands that could've made the 5, but i'm still considering them punk rock.
Buzzcocks? Undertones?
I suppose that nothing has been defined necessarily. It was just an idea I was throwing around for a Top 5 (BTW, if you haven't checked out Corey's Top 5 go do it at my site now!).
The list I had in my head was:

Blink 182-Enema of the State
Alkaline Trio-s/t
Riverdales-Phase 3
Queers-Love Songs for the Retarded
"Phase 3" is way outta left field to me. I mean, I like it, but I've just never known someone to hold it to that regard.
Here's my list. They're definitely not all records that you'd think of as pop-punk off the top of your head, but I think each one set in motion or contributed a major influence to different sects of melodic punk. and they're all really fucking good....
Screeching Weasel "My Brain Hurts"
Descendents "Milo Goes to College"
Misfits "Walk Among Us"
Ramones "s/t"
Bad Religion "Suffer"
Yeah. I debated putting Descendents & The Ramones on my list too.. But i couldnt decide if pop punk was a term derived in the 90's? But I can see how descendents & the ramones were pop compared to what was going on at the time.. man the definition it self is hard.. what characteristics classifies the genre as "pop-punk"?
I don't know why Phase 3 does it for me. The first Riverdales album was actually my gateway into everything pop-punk...handed down to me by a neighbor. Phase 3 was always my favorite. I'd probably put it above Enema of the State and others.
It's obvious that this category can't be too defined, so maybe I should stay away entirely from this Top 5 idea. Unless, if we can agree upon a definition, then I think we can all come to a consensus on what the tops would be.
damn corey, i wonder if nathan's upcoming 'pop punk' post on ATH will get as many responses as your current post on ATH? something to shoot for nathan.
and i wanted to put an All/Descendents album on there as well. but my Descendents vote would've been for 'everything sucks'. i still remember seeing 'i'm the one' on MTV and being blown away. such a rad video.
